Well, there's an embarassing story behind this photo. So this is my new 2004 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec-V, a 2.5L 175hp torque machine that can do 0-60 in 7.2 seconds. It's a sweet car. And on the very day I got it, before it even got home, I dumped it in a ditch! Yipes!
I was going to Lynden to pick up my U.S. mail, and once across the border I was captivated by beautiful Mt. Baker and the Twin Sisters in the warm sunset glow. I wanted to get a photo of the car in the amber fields, with the mountains in the background, so I found a lonely country road and pulled over to the grassy shoulder. But wait, that's not a shoulder, it's a six-foot ditch with a steep dropoff! And those aren't short grasses, they're five-foot reeds! Before I knew it, my car was canted at a rather disconcerting angle, two right wheels deep in the trench.
Well, fortunately within five minutes a good Samaritan came in the form of a grizzled old farmer who just smiled when I asked for his name. He had a four-wheel-drive pickup and a stout rope which we tied to my front axle, and with a short pull I was clear of the ditch. After retrieving his rope, he just nodded and smiled, and said, "Make sure you do the same if you come across someone else who's stuck," and in a flash he was gone.
I snapped this photo after my car was on level ground and I was left alone again on the country road. As I pulled away from the scene and headed home (driving very slowly and carefully), I noticed a signpost with the name of that road: Double Ditch Road.
