:: 2002-12 Ice Storm
[ up one level ]
On Wednesday evening, 4Dec2002, North Carolina had its worst ice storm in
decades. The snow started around 2pm, but the killer was the heavy ice rain
that fell until midnight, coating everything in a thick layer of ice, causing
trees to snap and power lines to fall. More than 2 million people in the
Carolinas were without power; I didn't get my power back for almost a week.
In the days after the storm, I walked around the 54 park-n-ride behind my
condo, and around campus, taking pictures of the beautiful icicles that
dangled everywhere I looked.
