This is the descendant of our precious gardenia! I don't even remember how
long ago we had our gardenia -- maybe ten, twelve years ago? It thrived in
the second-floor southern exposure of the various apartments we stayed in
while I was at UW. The flowers are copious and oh-so-fragrant, although it
tends to attract spider mites. But I'm no green-thumb, so when I left
Seattle, I passed it on to Dennis, the real expert, who has taken
fantastic care of it. The original plant was nearly killed (by another
friend of ours), but Dennis salvaged cuttings, and this one has already
grown to be this big! Getting gardenia cuttings to survive in this climate
is tough, so we're researching how to do it so I can have a cutting up at
my place in my south and west facing dining room. I have fond memories of
this gardenia!
