Ah, this was such an enjoyable weekend, relaxing with good friends, and meeting a couple new friends, too! The Rivendell retreat centre atop Cates Hill on Bowen Island is sacred: set apart, "other", different from our usual busy lives. The environment orients -- no, compels us -- to slow down, to shut up, to look in, and to turn our eyes upon Jesus.
We had great fellowship time, yes: hilarious conversations and getting to know one another better. I liked how comfortable we could be with each other, just lying on the couch and not even saying anything.
But in the end, I found this weekend to be less "horizontal" (between people) and more "vertical" (between us and God). As a group, we were knit in unity through the shared experience of awe and stillness -- as our eyes were watching God.
