Well, the first house I put an accepted offer on didn't work out; because it was a court Conduct of Sale, other buyers had the opportunity to outbid me, and I didn't get it. Ohwell.
So I took a second house-hunting trip. Unfortunately, it's quite a sellers' market right now; average house prices have risen about CDN$4k in just the few weeks between my two trips! The border agent was like, "You're buying a house in Canada now? Are you crazy?" yeah....
Anyway, thanks to the hard work of my realtor Arthur Simon, I snagged a new construction townhome right in Langley, only about ten minutes from Trinity Western. The Willoughby neighborhood is really booming; I'll be within walking distance of a WalMart, London Drugs, Costco, Home Depot, a couple grocery stores, a Hallmark, a couple furniture stores, and a big huge shopping mall.
Fortunately, there's a block and a greenway separating me from the busy roads, so I won't be too affected by the noise. As mine is an end-unit, I've got windows on three sides (at least on the main floor), and a small open area that pretty much will be my little backyard (though technically the strata (condo association) owns all the land; I don't own any land). Out back I've got a nice view of the greenway, and beyond the greenway is undeveloped land that later on will be a seniors' assisted living centre.
The townhome itself is not big: 1270 sqft, 2bd 2.5bath, with a tandem garage (park end-to-end). But location-wise it looks pretty good; it's probably got the best spot in the subdivision.
