The UNC Computer Science department had a string of four Ph.D. defenses within two days, 16-17Aug2004. Three of them were within MIDAG: me, Tom Fletcher, and Yoni Fridman; Erin Parker is a MIDAG "in-law" -- she's married to Tom.
Unfortunately, I had to miss Erin's defense to prepare for mine, and I forgot to ask someone to take pictures during my defense, but I made sure to snap some photos of Tom and Yoni.
Tom's dissertation is titled: "Statistical Variability in Nonlinear Spaces: Application to Shape Analysis and DT-MRI".
Yoni's dissertation is titled: "Extracting Branching Object Geometry via Cores".
Erin's dissertation is titled: "Analyzing the Behavior of Loop Nests in the Memory Hierarchy: Methods, Tools, and Applications".
My dissertation is titled: "Profile Scale Spaces for Image Match in Bayesian Segmentation".
